Today, we went to North America! Our day begin with some lovely playtime in the garden. Our garden has continued to flourish this summer. We can't believe how big the hydrangeas are! And it's always exciting to see the beginnings of the vegetables starting to grow. After our time playing outside, we came in and heard some stories about North America. We found North America on the globe and learned about various animals, people and places. In honor of the 4th of July coming up next week, our snack today was a version of the American Flag with blueberries, strawberries, cream cheese and rice cakes. The children loved it! For our art project today, we made Native American vests with stamps just like the Chippewa Indians used (though they used birch bark instead of sponges and decorated moccasins rather than vests). For our second project, we made dream catchers. According to Native American legend, the dreams float around at night and the bad dreams get caught in the web while the good dreams float down the feather to the sleeping person. We were very happy that the sun came out long enough for us to have some fun water play in the garden. A fun time was had by all! Join us Wednesday, July 10 as we travel to South America!
