For our first Wonderful Wednesday, we decided to learn about Vincent Van Gogh. The children loved hearing about him, seeing his self portrait and learning fun facts about him. Did you know that Van Gogh was one of the first painters to use colors to show moods and feelings instead of painting in realistic colors? Or that sometimes he was in such a hurry to paint on his canvas that he bypassed using a brush and just squeezed paint onto the canvas and created the painting using his fingers? Since sunflowers were a favorite of Van Gogh while he lived in the South of France, we decided to focus on them today. After our sunflower snack, we got right to painting our own versions of Van Gogh's sunflower painting and we discovered we have quite a few budding artists! Then we did a little color study and made our own color wheel mosaics to take home. We also made sure to sing the "Rainbow Song". And of course, no Wonderful Wednesday would be complete without time to play in the garden! We all had a blast and look forward to seeing you next Wednesday!
