Today at camp our theme was 'Forest Animals of North America.' We read a few books about animals one might find in a forest. After that we played charades and acted out some of the animals we had read about. Can you guess what these children are pretending to be? (Mommy and baby possum, foxes, and a frog) For our art project, we started making bird feeders from these old picture frames. We'll be adding a back and ribbon so they hang like a tray for the birds to feed from. The kids were literally screaming in delight when they saw the reaction between the materials used. The smaller cup has vinegar, yellow food coloring, and a squirt of dish soap. The larger cup has baking soda. The children spooned the baking soda into the cup, and much to their delight it foamed up everywhere. The soap slows down the baking soda and vinegar reaction a little. A big mess but luckily it's easily washed away. We can't wait for tomorrow when we talk about the animals we have as our pets!
